Welcome from Andrea Hickman, Chair Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board.

Welcome to OSCB’s website. I hope you find it useful. It’s designed to help everyone find out about the work of the Board and to allow professionals to access training and guidance. We hope to develop it over time to communicate with everybody who has an interest in keeping the children of Oxfordshire safe.

The OSCB is made up of representatives of the main statutory agencies in Oxfordshire, as required by law, but we are developing links with as many other relevant organisations as possible, especially the voluntary sector. Unlike the Area Child Protection Committees which preceded Safeguarding Boards we have a wider responsibility to keep children safe – not only from abuse and neglect but also, as far as possible, from other things that can impair the health and development of children and young people such as accidents and domestic violence.

Children and young people are at the centre of everything the OSCB does and we aim to involve them and their families in our work. The OSCB is independent and will challenge organisations if their plans or actions fail to keep children and you people safe.
The OSCB is responsible for ensuring that there are suitable policies and procedures in place and monitors the performance of organisations with safeguarding responsibilities. We ensure that appropriate training is provided and influence the development of services to ensure that they safeguard children and young people effectively. We also consult, inform and educate members of the public on relevant topics.
The website helps us to do some of these things. I hope you find it useful. Please let us know what you think.
